The Arlako in Väckelsång

Arlakon is one of Sweden's best-known brands and is referred to in the advertising as "Sweden's most beloved cow". The large wooden cow stands at the northern entrance to the community.

The milk center had several different symbols as a protective mark, e.g. the girl and the cow, but in the mid-1940s, Mjölkcentralen's advertising man at the time, Karl Thunberg, got the idea to refine the brand into a wooden box. The task of designing it went to an advertising artist named Sten Calding, it was according to his guidelines that Väckelsång came into the picture. A milk assessor named Tage Axelsson became the contact person between the Milk Center and the Lek i Trä factory in Väckelsång, which had been started by three brothers. There, the cow was produced in series of 5,000 at a time, it could be bought for three kroner at the dairies.

In 1975 Mjölkcentralen was merged with other dairies and was named Arla. Today there is no manufacturing in the factory, but it is only 150 meters from the cow, east of road 27.

Kossan has attracted a lot of attention among travelers, she looks very safe where she stands.
